Each artwork in this gallery depicts one of the tarot’s Major Arcana cards. The artists chose one card each and responded to its description as featured in Sarah Henstra’s novel The Lost Tarot. The story is an art-world mystery about a 1930s avant-garde artist named Lark Ringold whose paintings were destroyed in a catastrophic fire at the occult commune where he lived. The legendary “Ringold Tarot” is brought to life here in each artist’s varying and idiosyncratic style—proof that, no matter how much detail the author includes, each reader creates an entirely unique mental picture of the fictional world.
